Finally sold the 289 to a buddy of mine, who had the brilliant idea that it’d be easier to move if we disassembled it first. It. Was. So. Much. Fun. None of the bolts were seized, some were tight, but with a little pressure came out no problem. Had the whole thing disassembled in 2 hours.
EDIT: I *just* found out it was a HiPo. D’oh!

Yes, it’s definitely fun to do a teardown. It’s even more fun if you get it back together without left over parts.

$50 CL engines are great for this. I have a Miata 1.6 that I am picking parts off when I get time. It’s quite relaxing.

I started tearing down all kinds of stuff when I was a kid. It wasn’t quite as fun when it didn’t work anymore after rebuilding. I got better

I now really want to tear the Camaro’s engine out. I know it’ll need it soon, since there’s a lifter knock. Didn’t know it was a flat tappet cam until 2 years ago, so we hadn’t been running zinc in the oil.

It is an aftermarket cam. A very good one, a Comp Cams Magnum. I want to put the same cam back in it, but this time I’d know from the get-go it needs a zinc additive.
